Lori Carpet: A Masterpiece of Iranian Handmade Art
Lori carpets are among the most beautiful and authentic types of Iranian handwoven carpets, rooted in the rich culture of the
Lori nomads. These carpets, with their unique designs and colors, are a symbol of the pristine nature of Zagros and nomadic
life.
Characteristics of Lori Carpets
Designs: Lori carpet designs are often geometric and simple, inspired by the surrounding nature, animals, and nomadic
symbols. Common designs include those of roosters and hens, mountain goats, two-headed animals, eagles, crosses,
scorpions, Shatr-e-Ranji, and combs.
Colors: The predominant colors in Lori carpets are reddish-brown, beige, navy blue, and cream, which harmonize with the
mountainous nature and earth colors.
Raw Materials: Wool from sheep and goats is used to weave Lori carpets, which contributes to the durability and warmth of
these carpets. The warp and weft of these carpets are usually cotton.
Knot: Both symmetrical and asymmetrical knots are used in weaving Lori carpets.
Size: Lori carpets are usually woven in small and medium sizes.
Lori Carpet Weaving Regions
Lori carpets are primarily woven in the provinces of Lorestan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Fars,
Isfahan, and Markazi. Each region, based on its taste and traditions, uses specific designs and colors in its carpets.
